Fresh turmeric pickle is an age old recipe passed to me from my mom and grand mom. In Singapore we get it almost throughout the year. However I don’t know for which dishes it has been used.  Fresh Turmeric, ginger, green chili is mixed with salt,mustard powder, lemon juice and little oil. The pickle is then left to be marinated for a day before consuming it. It goes very well with curd rice, roti’s & paratha’s.

Pachai Mor Kuzhambu or Raw Buttermilk Kuzhambu is a creamy spiced yogurt dish which is prepared using thick buttermilk. Unlike regular Mor Kuzhambu, in this dish the yogurt is not cooked and can be used at room temperature. Smoothly beaten fresh thick yogurt is mixed with pre-cooked vegetables & delectable combination of a spice mix which consists of equal proportions of pepper, cumin seeds, chili and urad dhal. The flavor of the dish is further enhanced when we temper it with mustard & garnish with fresh curry leaves & coriander.

All of us at home are brinjal/eggplant lovers. Hence I cook sundaikkai / turkey berries / pea eggplants also quite often and create a variety of dishes with them. Sundaikkai's are miniature of eggplants and they almost taste the same when they are cut into half except that there are too many seeds when compared to the bigger egg plants. This recipe is about Sundaikkai cooked along with spices and mixed with yogurt and a paste made out of coriander,ginger,green chilli.

We anyway's carry umbrella's as we need it for both the extreme temperature. On the hot day's I generally make it in a big pot during the weekends so that we keep drinking without getting dehydrated. Vaazaithandu (Plantain stem) chopped roughly and blended with yogurt,lemon juice and salt gives this thirst quenching drink "Vaazaithandu Mor".
