Turmeric Ginger Chili Pickle

Turmeric Ginger & Chili Pickle
Turmeric Ginger Chili Pickle
Fresh turmeric pickle is an age old recipe passed to me from my mom and grand mom. In Singapore we get it almost throughout the year. However I don’t know for which dishes it has been used.  Fresh Turmeric, ginger, green chili is mixed with salt, mustard powder, lemon juice and little oil. The pickle is then left to be marinated for a day before consuming it. It goes very well with curd rice, roti’s & paratha’s.

Parangikaai Kudal Thogaiyal | Pumpkin Flesh Chutney
Most of the heirloom recipes in my blog are recipes shared by my elderly relatives or friends. These recipes are completely heirloom and forgotten by many. One such recipe which I found interesting is “Parangikaai Kudal Thogaiyal” or “Pumpkin flesh Chutney”. Pumpkin flesh is cooked along with tomato, black urad dhal, chili & tamarind. The flavor of the dish is enhanced when we temper with mustard, cumin and curry leaves.

Ragi choco coffee Mug cake | With left over 3rd degree Decoction
Filter coffee is common in many of our households. We generally prefer the first or second degree coffee and most of the time third degree coffee is never prepared and this mild flavor decoction is wasted in many households. Today’s recipe is with this third degree decoction.  Ragi, wheat flour, 3rd degree coffee decoction, palm sugar, cocoa & other baking ingredients are mixed and poured into a claypot cup. The mix is then kept in microwave for a minute to get this fluffy “Ragi choco coffee Mug cake”.
