Moringa / Murunga Keerai Tea

Moringa / Murunga Keerai Tea

This was my first post in this blog and it definitely needs to be upgraded. This tea is perfect for any cold evenings.

The Moringa or murungai keerai tea is an excellent energy & refreshing drink. The tea is loaded with antioxidants and vitamins.  Dried Moringa Leaves infused in hot water gives this refreshing Moringa Tea.

Back in India we had a drumstick tree at home and we were able to drink whenever we wanted. Being in apartments the luxury of having your own Moringa tree is ruled out for many of us. Hence I generally dry them in the sun when I go to India and store them until my next visit or a maximum of 1 year. However, when I run out of stock I buy them in Little India and microwave them to get the dried leave effect. I have provided the steps for microwave method.

Preparation
Storing Method
1.         Microwave Method : Wash the moringa leaves and spread them in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave for 3 -4 minutes

Sunlight : If you are going to use the sunlight method then spread them in a clean white cloth.
      2. The microwave method would retain the green color and the sunlight method will not retain the green color. However it is good to do the sunlight method.

Tea Preparation Method
1.      Take 2 spoons of dried leaves and put them in the tea diffuser.

2.      Pour hot water and allow it to infuse for 7-8 minutes

Notes

In microwave method the leaves will be very hot, allow it to cool down before packing in the air tight container.
If you prefer to dry under the sun make sure its not kept in a windy place as the leaves would fly away.
I felt that there is no difference in the taste for both the methods.
