Green apple rasam

"Green Apple rasam" is a simple rasam recipe with green apple flavor primarily infused in it. Eating sour food definitely makes us cringe, however it is not an indicator that the food is inedible. Green Apple is one such fruit which is extremely sour at time but heavily loaded with proteins , fiber, vitamins and minerals. “Green Apple Rasam” is a good way to incorporate this fruit in our diet.

Preparation Time :  10 minutes

Yields : 2 Cups (Approximately)


Ingredients (Refer Video)
Green apple - 1
Tomato - 1
Water – 240 ml
Salt – As needed
Turmeric – ¼ tsp
Hing Cake – 1 small piece
Curry Leaves – As needed
Rasam Powder – ½ tblsp
Boiled & Mashed Toor Dhal – ½ Cup
Coriander Leaves – few
Ghee – 2 tsp
Mustard – ½ tsp
Dry Red Chili - 1
Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp




Preparation
1.       To begin making the green apple rasam, soak toor dhal for 30 minutes with enough water.
2.       Pressure cook the toor dhal along with turmeric and once the pressure is released, mash it and keep it aside.
3.       Peel the green apple and chop them into big cubes.
4.       Chop the tomato.
5.       Add 60ml water to green apple & tomato and blend it in a mixie into a juicy consistency. Take a stainless steel bowl and add this mixture to it.
6.       Add salt, turmeric, hing, curry leaves & Rasam powder.
7.       Dilute this mix by adding 160 ml water.
8.       Stir well and start to cook.
9.       Bring to a boil and cook on high flame for 3 minutes and medium flame for 7 minutes.
10.   Add cooked dhal to this and combine them well. Reduce the gas flame to low and continue to cook until the rasam becomes frothy on top. Switch off the gas.
11.   Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
12.   Heat ghee in a heavy bottomed vessel, add mustard seeds and as they splutter add red chili & cumin seeds. Sauté until the cumin seeds are fried.
13.   Pour the tempering to the simmering rasam.
14.   Close with a lid and allow the rasam rest for a few minutes before serving.
15.   Serve with hot rice.

Measurements
1 tsp = 5ml
1 tblsp – 15 ml
1 cup = 200 ml
