Burger from Pulses Mix

The craze for burgers is never ending for kids and adults. Eating a homemade burger with loads of protein and healthy vegetables is a better choice. It also gives us a flexibility to do some small variations in the patty according to the individual taste buds. This recipe takes very less oil and is made out of the pulses mix. I am using oats as binding as I have already posted a recipe with bread as binding (Kebabs). You may mix and match the vegetables of your choice.

Burger

Recipe Cuisine: International|  Recipe Category: Snack

Prep Time: 25 mins | Baking time : 45 mins
Oven Heat : 180 deg c | Yields : 3 thick patties

Ingredients
Boiled Potato– 3/4 cup
Oats– 4 spoons
Onion – 1 finely chopped
Chopped coriander - 5 spoons
Salt to taste
Turmeric – 1/3 tsp
Jeera Powder – 1/2 tsp
Coriander Powder – 1 tsp
Tandoori Masala – 1 /2 tblsp
Oil – 1-2 tsp

Measurements
1 tsp = 5ml
1 tblsp – 15 ml
1 cup = 250 ml

Preparation
1.       Soak the dal for 8hrs, boil and mash by removing the excess water. You may mash the dal in the mix by draining the water. Boil and mash the potato.

2.       Powder the Oats by grinding in a mixer.

3.       Mix all the ingredients except oil.

4.       Mix them and divide into 3 equal balls.

6.       Take an oven tray and cover it with aluminum foil and brush with oil.
7.Take the divided balls and. use your palms and make them in a patty shape

8.       Arrange te patty in te tray and brush with oil on bot te sides.

9.       Refrigerate for minimum 1hr in fridge or freezer. I generally prefer freezer if have only 1hr time. Otherwise sometimes I make this in the morning and put it in the fridge (Non freezer) section.
10.   Pre heat the oven for 180 degrees for 5 minutes. Place the tray. After 25 mins keep checking if the bottom portion of patty is cooked. If its cooked and crispy turn around.

11. It took me 45 mins to get the patty. Make sure all the sides are crispy and inside is softer, that’s the indication that the kebab is cooked. Switch off the oven and leave the patty in the same oven heat for another 10 mins.

12. For the tawa version, reduce the patty thickness and follow the below steps. This consumes more oil than the oven version.

13. For arranging the burger, cut the buns into two and toast them. This is optional but tastes good if we toast it.

14. Arrange cheese, patty and spread with ketchup or a sauce. I used Avacado basil butter.

15. Arrange with vegetables of your choice.

16.Press the burger for 10 -15 seconds and insert a tooth pick to stay intact.

Burgers are ready to be served!!!!

Notes

  • The measurement is based on the mashed dhal quantity as different types of dhal would give different quantity after boiling. I used 1/2 of pulses mix to get this measurement.
  • After the dhal is boiled, make sure you strain the water completely and mash it. This is important else the patty cannot bind.
  • Oil mentioned in the ingredients is only for brushing. You need not add it while mixing.
  • You may wish to omit vegetables and use only dhal.
  • I have omitted ginger garlic paste you may add them if required
  • All vegetables must be very finely chopped or boiled.
